On The Property

Javelina near the Gila Wilderness in Pinos Altos, Southwest NMHere at Bear Creek Motel & Cabins we love our pets and welcome you to bring yours with you when you stay.  We have had a different sort of pet visiting the property, Javelina, also known as the collard peccary.  (Don’t forget the J is pronounced like an H; in Spanish pronounce - Habalina).

If you have never seen one, they look like but are not related to the pig.  Their color is a salt and pepper gray and they are hairier and humpier than a domestic pig- whatever that means.  While these animals look friendly and are generally harmless to people, they can be very mean to your pet, especially if there is a baby in their herd.  We advise our guests not to feed or interact with the javelina and to watch or photograph them from a distance.  Click here to check out our Pet Policy.   Photo by B.
