25th Annual Victorian Christmas Evening
December 17, 4:00 pm
4-9 p.m.  Have a great time at an old-fashioned community celebration featuring traditional holiday music, treats, costumed characters, and other delights of the season. Location: Silver City Museum, 312 W. Broadway, Silver City, New Mexico.

Silver City, NM — The Prize list for the annual ‘Tour of the Gila’ Bicycle Race was recently announced on the event’s website and Bear Creek Cabins is already beginning to receive inquiries about lodging for the event.

The first “Tour of the Gila” was held in 1987 and since has grown to International recognition with participants coming from the U.S.A., Canada, New Zealand, Germany, Russia, Colombia, Mexico, and Australia. Men and women of all skill levels participate in the five-day event covering a distance up to 340 miles.

This event is great fun for participants and spectators alike!

This is going to be a busy weekend in SW New Mexico with a lot of different events going on and fun for the whole family.

Silver City Farmers’ Market will be returning to Historic Downtown for the upcoming 2008 season. The Opening Day will be May 10. The site will be the new Main Street Plaza (behind Domino’s Pizza). 

Walking Tour of Ft. Bayard National Historic Landmark.  Tour begins at 9:30 am on Saturday, May 10th at the Fort Bayard Theater located near the northest corner of the hospital.  Call for more information  575-388-4477

1st Annual Tyrone Cowboy Poetry and Music Gathering
Enjoy the sounds‚ songs and sights of the Old West in Tyrone’s annual Cowboy Poetry festival! This special performance benefits restoration efforts for the Tyrone Community Center and features Mike Moutoux‚ “New Mexico’s Most Enchanting Cowboy‚” The Copper Creek Wranglers‚ Pete Kennedy and many more. This year’s event will be named the ‘Ben D. Altamirano Memorial Tour of the Gila’ in honor and memory of our State Senator that just recently passed away.  With events for participants and spectators alike you are sure to find something that will please all ages of your group.

Many of the teams staying with us during the bike race week.  The last race event ends in Pinos Altos and many of the racers enjoy wandering back to their room where they enjoy a late check out.

Great Race — The WNMU 41st Annual Great Race, a campus tradition, is set to begin at noon on Sunday, April 20, on the campus. The competition features teams pushing their cars with one team member in the driver’s seat of specially-made race cars around the hills of campus with pit stops and a water hazard each team has to face and fans love to witness. A week full of events and competitions will lead up to the big race on Sunday and all are open to the public. For additional info call 538-6611.
